Meet the Team

More than just piano technicians

We're musicians who understand the vital connection between a well-maintained instrument and the joy of making music.

Our team was founded by Steve Droy, a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with decades of experience tuning pianos across North London and beyond. Steve's expertise has been honed through training at Steinway in Hamburg, and he's gone on to establish The Piano Technology School, the UK's leading piano tuner training course.

Every member of our team shares Steve's passion for pianos and his commitment to exceptional service. What makes us unique is that all our technicians have been personally trained by Steve, ensuring that every customer receives the same high standard of care and expertise. Whether you're a beginner working with an old family upright or a professional musician preparing for a performance, we bring the same dedication and attention to detail to every piano we work with.

We believe that the relationship between a pianist and their instrument is something special, and our team is here to nurture that connection. From routine tunings to complex repairs, we approach each job with a genuine love of music and a commitment to helping you get the very best from your piano.

Steve Droy (RPT)

Founder & Lead Technician

Steve Droy has been a professional concert piano tuner for over 30 years, following in his father's footsteps to pursue a career dedicated to the art of piano technology. Based in North London, Steve has built an eclectic and loyal client base that spans from young learners working on family uprights to professional musicians, West End shows, and recording studios.

Steve's passion for teaching led him on an extraordinary journey in 2012, when he and his family moved to Mumbai, India, to establish the Furtados Institute of Piano Technology. Upon returning to the UK, he founded The Piano Technology School in 2015, which has become the UK's leading training provider for aspiring piano tuners and technicians. This commitment to education inspired Steve to add a teaching and training qualification to his impressive credentials.

Steve's technical expertise is world-class. He has trained at Steinway in Hamburg and worked freelance for Steinway in London. In 2023, he achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with the Piano Technicians Guild, making him currently the only tuner in the UK to hold this prestigious international qualification. Steve was also a supportive full member of the Piano Forte Tuners Association for many years.

Whether he's preparing a piano for a concert performance or helping a family maintain their beloved instrument, Steve brings the same level of care, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm to every job.

Laurence

An accomplished organist Laurence is a natural piano tuner who loves problem solving and getting the best out of your piano; which is why we love having him as part of the Islington Pianos Team.

Laurence graduated from The Piano Technology School in 2022. He has experience of both domestic and commercial tunings, including film work and you will often see him tuning the Pianos at St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Stratford International. Make sure you say hi!

When he is not piano tuning, Laurence composes for the Organ and carries out several recitals around the country throughout the year.

Jack

After moving to the UK from Hong Kong aged just 16 for a music scholarship at Harrow School, Jack continued his music studies at The Royal Academy of Music, where he developed his love of piano and conducting choir.

He trained to be a piano technician with Steve at The Piano Technology School and we are delighted to have him as part of our tuning team.

Jack LOVES cats and they seem to love him!

Felix

Having graduated Oxford with a first class honours in Music, Felix wanted to develop his passion for the piano and become a piano technician. He has recently completed his intensive training in piano tuning & repair at The Piano Technology School, and we are delighted to have another talented technician as part of the Islington Pianos team.

When he is not tuning pianos, Felix loves to play and compose.
